Zaccheus Hamlin and Mary Lumbart A number of genealogists have this Priscilla b. in 1749 and married to Wickliff CHADWICK of Nantucket because The Hamlin Family: a Genealogy of James Hamlin of Barnstable, Massachusetts stated so. It shows Esther married to Jacob HOWES (who was born in 1745). That book also stated that Zaccheus and two of his grandsons died at sea in 1770.
However, Mary is mentioned in her father's 1749 will as "Mary Coleman" and marriage records show that she married John Coleman on 25 Aug 1743. All of which means she and Zaccheus divorced prior to that date (unlikely) or he died. Either way, any children that she and Zaccheus had would have been born before her marriage. As it is, to have had the number of children stated in The Hamlin Family genealogy, Mary and Zaccheus would have had to have at least one set of multiples.
This confusion is compounded by the fact that there are very few records of this family and many of the same first names were given to cousins. If you check Jabez' children's names, they are the same as Timothy and Mary supposedly gave their children.
I believe it is more likely that the Priscilla that married Wickliff was eitherJabez' daughter, another HAMLIN, a HAMMOND as stated in the compiled Nantucket records or never existed at all.
My hypothesis is that Zaccheus's children were actually Timothy, Jabez (who may have been James), Solomon, Josiah and Sarah, while Esther, Joanna, Martha belonged to his brother Jabez. It is entirely possible that Zaccheus, Solomon and Josiah died together in 1742/1742. It is also possible that Jabez took in Timothy and Jabez/James, while Sarah remained with her mother.
I leave it to the genealogists directly related to this line to sort it all out.
