Surviving are two children: Patty (Dennis) Hite of Altoona and Rick (Lori) Tomlinson of Tyrone; a daughter-in-law, Dana Tomlinson; eight grandchildren: Justin and Danielle Tomlinson, Emily Hite, Shannon Russell, Lauren Vaughn, Shane and Derek Tomlinson and Meghan McKelvey; and five great-grandchildren: Addison Hite, Bryce, Nathan and Nolan Vaughn and Jonah Tomlinson.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Joseph and John Tomlinson; amd three siblings: Edward, Walter and Eleanor Resig.

Janet was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

She was a member of Cathedral Choir for more than 30 years, and she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and playing bingo.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held during visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. John Joseph Tomlinson - A student in the Navy's basic underwater demolition school died after losing consciousness near the finish of a 5.5-mile training swim off San Clemente Island.

John Joseph Tomlinson, 22, of Altoona, Pa., was within 50 yards of completing the swim just before 9 a.m. when he passed out, Navy Cmdr. David Dillon said.

Tomlinson was pulled from the water by his swimming partner, who gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Dillon said.

He was taken by Coast Guard helicopter to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died Monday afternoon without regaining consciousness, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The cause of death is being investigated, Dillon said, adding that Tomlinson had no health problems.

"These people are monitored all the time and a serious problem would have been apparent," he said.
