Was born in Cambria county, Pa., Feb. 16, 1829, and was a son of Bernard and Mary E. (Dawson) McFeely, deceased. He was married first to Mary A. Sutton, and they had one child, James. He was married secondly Oct. 3, 1865, in St. Angustine, [sic] Pa., to Elizabeth George. She was a daughter of Samuel George, still living, and Sibby (Gumby), deceased, and was born in Clearfield county, Pa., Aug. 26, 1849. The children of this marriage are as follows: Nettie, Anna, dec., Haden, Archie, Minnie, Malcolm, John P., dec., and Nora. When hostilities broke out between the North and South, our subject was employed as a laborer, and was 31 years of age when he was enrolled June 12, 1861, as a private in Co. A, 11th Pa. Res., and in due time was made Corp. May 10, 1864, he was wounded at Wilderness in head, for which he was treated in hospital at Baltimore, Md., two months. Prior to this, November, 1862, he was confined in hospital at Georgetown, D. C., four weeks, suffering with fever. November, 1862, he was furloughed for thirty days, and returned at end of time. June 27, 1862, he was captured at Wilderness and was held in Libby prison one month and Bell Isle for three months and two days; he was honorably discharged at Bristoe Station, Va., and re-enlisted in old command as a veteran; he was transferred to 190th Pa. V. V. Res. Corps. His list of active hostilities are seven days' fight before Richmond, Gettysburg, Mine Qne, Bristow Station, 2d Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Centerville and Wilderness. He was honorably discharged Dec. 24, 1864, at Pittsburg, Pa. His brother Barnard served in the war, as did his wife's brothers, John, Wm. and Benj. George; the latter was killed at Gettysburg; her father, Samuel George, also served. Comrade McFeely is a member of Harper Post, No. 181; he is an invalid and his address is Ashville, Pa.
